Norton, Kansas Downtown Survey: Survey Report

From the preface: "The Norton City/County Economic Development of Norton, Kansas, contracted with the firm Sally Schwenk Associates, Inc., Preservation Professionals (SSA), located in Kansas City, Missouri, to conduct a cultural resource survey to identify and evaluate historic properties using National Register of Historic Places criteria for individual significance or significance as contributing properties to a historic district. Sally Schwenk Associates, Inc. conducted the survey in accordance with National Register Bulletin 24: Guidelines for Local Survey: A Basis for Preservation Planning and National Register Bulletin 15: How to Apply the National Register Criteria for Evaluation. The survey included the downtown central business district, as well as a few scattered, landmark properties to the west and north. The survey area included ninety-three primary resources generally bounded by Lincoln Street to the north, Wabash Avenue to the east, Washington Street to the south, and Second Avenue to the west. The survey included commercial, institutional, and several residential resources." $7221 in funding for this project was provided by a fiscal year 2009 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the City of Norton, Kansas (project number KS-09-008) administered by the Kansas State Historic Preservation Office (grant number 20-09-21822) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
