This report includes seven chapters -- Introduction: Scope of the Study and Study Boundaries; Contexts for Historical Analysis; Park Development and Design in the United States and Dominance of the Picturesque; Historical Narrative; Existing Conditions; Application of National Register Criteria to the City Park; and Assessment of Landscape Integrity. Appendices include photographs of five folders of drawings from the William Wiedorn Collection at the Architectural Archives, Special Collection, Tulane University Libraries. Funding was provided in part through a fiscal year 2007 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Louisiana State Historic Preservation Office (project number LA-07-006, grant number 22-07-21622) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
