This revitalization plan is also referred as the "Proposed Facade and Parking Revitalization Program." The statement of purpose is as follows: "This plan, designed for the West Monroe Historic District, creates an approach to urban development which is respectful in preserving the historic character and integrity of each downtown structure, while supporting the individual sense of `place' as determined by the community. It is also meant to create a pleasing urban environment for people to live and prosper in, while preserving the character of the community from which it originated." Funding for this project was provided in part through a fiscal year 2009 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the City of West Monroe (project number LA-09-009) administered by the Louisiana State Historic Preservation Office (grant number 22-09-21824) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. West Monroe, Louisiana is a Certified Local Government.
