Kvamme KL. 2007. Daddy, I Don't See a Fort: A Popular Presentation of Geophysical Findings at Fort Pierre Chouteau National Historic Landmark. University of Arkansas; South Dakota State Historic Preservation Office

Featured here is a PDF of this popular presentation of geophysical findings at Fort Pierre Chouteau National Historic Landmark. A technical report was also issued and may be available; see the notes field below for more information. The following activities were carried out during the project, according to the South Dakota State Historic Preservation Office: 1) Locate, flag-pin & map waterline at Ft. Pierre Chouteau by performing 5 geophysical surveys: magnetic gradiometry, electrical resistance, electromagnetic induction (EM-conducitivity/magnetic susceptibility), ground-penetrating radar, metal detector. 2) Survey area of original trading post w/ 0.5 meter separating transects. 3) Full-coverage survey by magnetic gradiometry & electrical resistance or EM. Areas w/ significant anomalies will be investigated by electromagnetic induction and ground-penetrating radar. 4) Survey by magnetic gradiometry additional 20 meter wide N-S transect across property to investigate geophysical signatures & extent of larger Ft. Pierre Chouteau. 5) Consult will provide printed maps immediately after field phase. Funding for this project was provided in part through a fiscal year 2007 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the University of Arkansas (project number SD-07-019) administered by the South Dakota State Historic Preservation Office (grant number 46-07-21646) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
