This report describes a pilot effort to design a practical technique for gathering useful management information about visitors. The effort is part of a wider Visitor Services Project being conducted by the University of Idaho Cooperative Park Studies Unit. The pilot study was conducted at Yellowstone National Park July 26 through August 1, 1983. The general strategy was to distribute mailback questionnaires to randomly selected visitors entering the park during the study period.
