From introduction: "Several previous grants allowed completion of reconnaissance surveys in the four quadrants of [Park] county, highlighting those communities most in need of additional study. The final report of project CLG -CO-00-022 Reconnaissance Survey of Northeast/Southeast Quadrants, Park County in 2000-2001 identified Shawnee as a significant resource and assigned this town a high priority for intensive level survey. In fiscal year 2006, Park County was awarded funds to complete such a study. As two of several communities identified by the Reconnaissance Survey as possibly significant and worthy of documentation, Shawnee and Guffey were prioritized by Park County as the two towns to address first in the process of intensive documentation of county resources. Both retained significant historic fabric and integrity, as assessed in the reconnaissance survey, and the two could be combined into a single application to the Colorado Historical Society for an intensive level survey. Shawnee, in particular, was considered a strong possibility for the designation of a Park County Historic District, with potential for nomination as a National Register District. Finally, several members of the Shawnee community were active in documenting and preserving the town history in archives and publications. This report is one product of an intensive level survey of 22 properties within the unincorporated Town of Shawnee in Park County, Colorado. The work was completed between March 2006 and July 2007. Two public community meetings were hosted by Park County Historic Preservation Office to describe the project, summarize findings and solicit input from community members and property owners. The final products of this survey included this report and Architectural Inventory Forms (#1403) for each of the 22 resources documented by the project." Funding for this project was provided in part through a fiscal year 2006 Historic Preservation Fund grant to Park County (project number CO-06-016) administered by the Colorado State Historic Preservation Office (grant number 08-06-21508) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. Park County, Colorado is a Certified Local Government.
