During the Klondike-Alaska Gold Rush, outposts and mining boomtowns experienced a fair amount of crime. In 1900, Judge James Wickersham was assigned to the Third Judicial District of Alaska, stationed in Eagle City. Wickersham brought the laws and regulations of the United States to the frontier. With the construction of Fort Egbert, in addition to the new courthouse, Eagle became a central location for business in Alaska. Later, with the finding of gold in the Tanana Valley, the Third District Court moved to Fairbanks.
