From introduction: "The Columbus Compact Corporation ('the Compact') is a nonprofit development corporation that has partnered with the City of Columbus for 15 years to implement economic development projects on the Near East Side of Columbus, Ohio. The Compact has undertaken this feasibility study to evaluate the potential for preservation and reuse of the rapidly-deteriorating Franklin Park Trolley Barn complex. The complex, a 3.2 acre site with over 52,000 square feet of 1880-1920 era brick structures, is located in the heart of the National Register-listed Near East Historic District. It is in private hands and is at severe risk of deterioration to the point of code-required demolition. One building has partially collapsed, and roofs on two other buildings were removed, leaving those walls in need of stabilization and protection from the weather. This feasibility study has been partially funded with grants from the Ohio Community Development Finance Fund and a Certified Local Government Grant, administered by the Ohio Historic Preservation Office... This feasibility study provides a framework for decision-making regarding the future of the historic complex. It outlines potential uses that are compatible with the neighborhood and the historic character of the buildings and site and that are likely to be self-sustaining financially." Funding for this project was provided in part through a fiscal year 2011 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Columbus Compact Corporation (project number OH-11-009) administered by the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office (grant number 39-11-31942) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. Columbus, Ohio is a Certified Local Government.
