Traditional subsistence practices play an important role in Alaska Native lifestyles, even after the introduction of European goods and commodities impacted traditional lifeways. In 1980, Congress passed the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANLICA), which preserves lands in Alaska for subsistence purposes. Lands in Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve are used year-round for hunting, fishing, and trapping.
