Sonoran Desert Inventory and Monitoring Network (SODN)
Sonoran Desert Inventory and Monitoring Network (SODN).
As part of the National Park Service's Natural Resources Inventory & Monitoring Division, the Sonoran Desert Network conducts long-term natural resource monitoring in 11 U.S. national parks. The goals of this program are to (1) assess the condition of park ecosystems, (2) provide park managers with early warning of potential problems (that may become more expensive to fix if left undetected), (3) develop a stronger scientific basis for natural resource stewardship and management, and (4) help conserve the parks, unimpaired, for future generations. Ten Sonoran Desert Network parks are in Arizona: Casa Grande Ruins National Monument (NM), Chiricahua NM, Coronado National Memorial, Fort Bowie National Historic Site, Montezuma Castle NM, Organ Pipe Cactus NM, Saguaro National Park, Tonto NM, Tumacacori National Historical Park, and Tuzigoot NM. One unit is in New Mexico: Gila Cliff Dwellings NM.
