Project description: "The Dalton, Georgia Historic Resource Survey of 2014-2015 covers the four current National Register Historic Districts. Boundaries for the survey are delineated by the official boundaries of each historic district. These districts include the: Dalton Commercial Historic District registered in 1988, boundary increase in 2006; Crown Mill Historic District registered in 1979; Thornton Avenue/Murray Hill Historic District registered in 1992; McCarty Subdivision Historic District registered in 2002. The purpose of this 2014-2015 survey is to evaluate the resources within the four historic districts dating to 1974 and before to assess their current integrity and to evaluate properties that have become historic since the original National Register Nominations. These resources include buildings, structures, objects, landscapes, and sites. Survey fieldwork and report have been completed by Catherine Wilson-Martin, historic preservation planner and principal surveyor for Greenhouse Consultants Inc. The City of Dalton, Georgia and the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources are the survey sponsors. This Survey of Historic Resources has been financed in part with Federal funds from the National Park Service, US Department of the Interior, through the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The survey follows the standards set forth by the Historic Preservation Division in the Georgia Historic Resources Survey Manual. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Historic Preservation Division Natural, Archaeological and Historic Resources Geographical Information Systems (GNARHIGS) on line database has been used to document and record the historic resources." Funding for this project was provided in part through a 2014 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the City of Dalton (project number GA-14-024) administered by the Georgia State Historic Preservation Office (grant number P14AB00007) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
