Heggland TF. 2009. Intensive Survey Report, City of Lancaster, Grant County, Wisconsin. City of Lancaster Historic Preservation Commission; Wisconsin Historical Society. Lancaster, Wisconsin
Abstract: "This report documents an intensive architectural/historical survey of all resources located within an area that corresponds to the corporate boundaries of the city of Lancaster as of January 1, 2009. This represents a study area whose boundaries were set by the City of Lancaster in conjunction with the staff of the State of Wisconsin's Division of Historic Preservation prior to the beginning of this study. Subsequently, a reconnaissance survey of this area was undertaken by the principal investigator as the first part of the intensive architectural/historical survey, after which an intensive research effort designed to ascertain the historic and architectural significance of the resources identified by the reconnaissance survey was undertaken by the principal investigator. The results of this research is summarized in this intensive survey report and they are also embodied in individual data entries for all the resources studied, which were prepared in electronic form to standards set by the Division of Historic Preservation. The purpose of this intensive survey project was two-fold; to identify all the resources within the study area that are potentially eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, and to provide the City of Lancaster and other county, state, and national agencies with a comprehensive data base that covers all the historic resources within the study area. The intensive survey ultimately surveyed 279 individual resources. Of these, two historic districts containing a total of 28 individual buildings and 28 individual buildings and building complexes were identified as having potential for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NHRP)." Funding for this project was provided in part through a 2008 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the City of Lancaster (project number WI-08-001) administered by the Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Office (grant number 55-08-21754) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. Lancaster, Wisconsin is a Certified Local Government.
