From report: "The survey area is bounded by Pearl Street on the north, 13th Street on the west, Diamond Street on the south, and 6th Street on the east and encompasses 14 city blocks and 136 total primary buildings (secondary buildings such as garages were not counted in this total) (Figure 2). Of these 136 buildings, 29 had been previously inventoried but most had not been evaluated for National Register eligibility. The remaining 107 properties had never been inventoried. Of the 29 previously inventoried properties, four had been previously listed in the National Register of Historic Places and include the Monona County Courthouse, the Onawa Public Library, the Onawa IOOF Hall/Opera House, and the Whiting/Murphy House. One of the previously recorded properties at 1013 9th Street (Iowa Inventory No. 67-00302) was found to have been replaced with a modem building, with that building retaining the same address and inventory number. However, the historic building is now non-extant. Additionally, two previously recorded properties within the current survey area were found to be no longer standing, with their locations now vacant lots. These properties were at 716 Iowa Avenue (67-00334) and 718 Iowa Avenue (67-00335)."
