The Traditional Birthplace Cabin
Warren LA. 1950. The Traditional Birthplace Cabin. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Abraham Lincoln National Historical Park
This report was produced by one of three Lincoln students who were invited to present their reactions to three monographs dealing with the question of authenticity of the traditional Lincoln Birthplace Cabin. Warren analyzes the statements regarding the cabin's authenticity made in "Abraham Lincoln National Historical Park" (National Park Service, 1947), "The Abraham Lincoln Quarterly" (Abraham Lincoln Association, 1948), and "Report of Research on the Traditional Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Cabin" by Benjamin H. Davis (1949). He concludes, "It does not appear to this reviewer that additional evidence of sufficient importance has been presented to prove that no logs in the present structure can be associated with the original birthplace cabin of Abraham Lincoln." Original copy of Dr. Louis A. Warren's report attached to letter of 4/17/50. Includes Exhibit A: 1860 letter from R. Wintersmith to J. B. McKeehan
