This Historic Structure Report was prepared by ADEPPT, a cultural resources firm located in Columbus, Mississippi, under contract with the Natchez Trace Parkway. The purpose of this report is to identify and evaluate the physical and historic fabric of the structure known as Mt. Locust and alternatively called the Ferguson House, Mound Plantation, and the Chamberlain House, and to develop short and long term strategies for repair and maintenance of the structure. This study was broken into four parts: 1. Perform a physical inspection of the structure and prepare a report. 2. Identify required repairs/restoration work and develop alternatives. 3. Develop a maintenance checklist. 4. Develop an integrated Pest Management Plan. The work was begun in November 1997 with field inspection and measurement of the house, and research in the Archives of the Natchez Trace Parkway at the Headquarters at Tupelo, Mississippi. It was concluded in January, 1998. Drawings were prepared using Autocad release 14. Photography was performed with black and white film, as well as color film and digital still imaergy.
