From introduction: "The purpose of this preservation plan is to offer guidance for the preservation and continued use of the Castaneda Hotel...For general purposes, changes to the building are weighed against the concepts listed here: New uses and occupancies would be accommodated with minimal modification to historic spaces, internal spatial relationships, and external relationships to adjacent buildings and spaces; Historic fabric would be retained and repaired as much as possible; Significant features of the building would remain in, or close to, original condition; Historic character of the building as exhibited through style, form, and finishes would be maintained. Specifically, the report addresses remedial measures to repair the existing structural damage and methods to stabilize and to prevent further deterioration to the building. It should be used in conjunction with the associated structural report (Hands Engineering, Inc.) and the architectural documents (Jonathan Whitten + Associates). The report identifies significant features and spaces of the hotel. Site visits were conducted from June through August 2014. The report also includes considerations of spatial remodeling and information concerning repair, modification, or replacement Of elements. It should be used in conjunction with the associated structural report (Hands Engineering, Inc.) and the architectural documents (Jonathan Whitten + Associates). This preservation plan does not address every issue that may arise in a particular reuse scheme, nor does it cover every piece of historic fabric and offer compatible solution for repair or reuse. In a potential rehabilitation, all proposed modifications and treatments must be evaluated against life safety codes, applicable construction regulations, and occupancy requirements. The plan may be used as an orientation to maintain the historic character of the Castaneda Hotel through sensitive management of the building's historic fabric."
