From introduction: "The Symposium, Velino Shije Herrera at Pritzlaff Ranch: Preservation, Presentation and Stewardship, was convened as one component of a 2014 grant funded by the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division. The grant project, entitled Ma-Pe-Wi [Velino Shije Herrera] Assessment, Planning and Nomination Project, also includes an initial study and technical report of structural conditions at the Pritzlaff Ranch bunkhouse containing Ma-Pe-Wi's murals, the preparation of a National Register of Historic Places nomination addressing Velino Shije Herrera and his art with an emphasis on the mural paintings at Pritzlaff Ranch, and a Tribal Roundtable. The Symposium, informed by the Tribal Roundtable, addressed four main subjects: 1. Preservation (of the structure) and conservation (of the paintings) 2. Presentation and public access 3, Overall stewardship and management of the murals. 4. Tribal consultation practices for murals. This report is focused on these four main subjects." Project funding was provided in part by a 2013 Historic Preservation Fund grant administered by the New Mexico State Historic Preservation Office (project number NM-13-027, grant number 35-13-51938) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
