Structural Assessment and Stabilization Plan for Gurski Homestead, 26 Obtuse Hill Road, Brookfield, Connecticut
Conlon Engineering, LLC. 2014. Structural Assessment and Stabilization Plan for Gurski Homestead, 26 Obtuse Hill Road, Brookfield, Connecticut. Town of Brookfield; Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development. Brookfield, Connecticut
From introduction: "Conlon Engineering, LLC was retained by The Town of Brookfield to conduct a structural assessment and stabilization plan for buildings on the town's Gurski Homestead property. The project was done in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and was funded by a grant from the Community Investment Act of the State of Connecticut as administered by the Department of Economic and Community Development, State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Our office visited the site several times to observe, measure, and assess the condition of structural elements of the various buildings. We made visual observations on the site and prepared CAD drawings of each building. Our observations and drafting efforts were aided by previous drawings prepared by others for repair work on the farm house and barn structures. The purpose of the work was to prepare preliminary engineering designs for repair and stabilization of the buildings. As we understand it, future uses of the buildings are to be determined. Since uses are unknown, design criteria used in our assessment is limited to building stabilization only. Live load, serviceability criteria, and similar occupancy criteria are to be determined pending the Town’s future plans for occupancy of the buildings. This report is divided into sections as follows: I. Building Inventory and Description II. Measured Floor Plans III. Narrative Describing Existing Conditions IV. Preliminary Stabilization Design, Prioritization, and Opinion of Probable Cost V. Photographs of The Structures Tied to Key Plan" Project funding was provided in part by a 2013 Historic Preservation Fund grant administered by the Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office (project number CT-13-016, grant number P13AF0013) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
