From executive summary: "In 2014 the Aurora Historic Sites and Preservation Office (AHSPO) was awarded a Certified Local Government grant to complete an Historic Resources Survey Plan. The Plan is a feasible, practical, financially responsible framework that AHSPO staff and the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) can follow to systematically record and evaluate Aurora’s historic built environment. The Plan is based upon the following research: Architectural reconnaissance survey—photographic record of historic sites thirty years or older within the city’s 154 square mile boundary resulting in a guidebook summarizing Aurora’s prevalent architectural styles and building types Public outreach and opinion gathering—city staff workshop, community organization leader workshop, public open house, and visual preference exercise at local public libraries Assessment of city’s previous research and documentation efforts—analysis of the four historic contexts and seven historical and architectural survey projects completed over nearly four decades The research findings informed the identification of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats facing historic resources in Aurora." Project funding was provided in part by a 2014 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the City of Aurora (project number CO-14-011) administered by the Colorado State Historic Preservation Office (grant number P14AF00031) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
