Abstract: "On behalf of the Historic Preservation Office of the South Dakota State Historical Society, The Louis Berger Group, Inc. [Berger] completed an architectural survey of Beadle County, South Dakota. The goal of the project was to gain an understanding of the nature of architectural resources of the county through a reconnaissance level survey. The project included the survey of over 3,900 properties throughout the county. Surveyed properties included farmsteads and many abandoned early and mid-twentieth century dwellings. There were commercial and religious buildings in the county’s towns. Cemeteries were found in both urban and rural settings. The integrity of these properties varied widely, and many have been altered over time through the installation of synthetic siding and replacement windows, and large additions. This survey provides an architectural overview of the county and identifies potentially significant properties." Project funding was provided in part by a 2007 Historic Preservation Fund grant administered by the South Dakota State Historic Preservation Office (project number SD-07-015, grant number 46-07-21646) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
