From executive summary: "At the request of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Jablonski Building Conservation, Inc. conducted a conditions assessment of the wood elements of the Pope Leighey House located in Alexandria, Virginia. This condition assessment report was prepared to identify, document and recommend repairs for the exterior cypress. Architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Pope-Leighey House. It was completed in the winter of 1941, during Wright's Usonian period. In designing the Pope-Leighey House, Wright kept the visible construction materials simple using only wood, glass, brick and concrete. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and is owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The scope of this project was to focus on the deterioration issues of the exterior wood elements. This includes the siding, soffits, fascia, doors, windows and porch framing. As the brick and concrete were replaced during the 1995 relocation of the house, they are not original to the structure and were not included in the scope of this project." Project funding was provided in part by a 2005 Save America's Treasures grant administered by The National Trust for Historic Preservation (grant number 90-05-ML-0320) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. The Federal Save America's Treasures grants program began in 1999 and helps preserve nationally significant historic properties and collections that convey our nation's rich heritage to future generations of Americans. Since 1999, there have been almost 4,000 requests for funding totaling $1.54 billion. In response to these requests, $315,152,000 was awarded to 1,287 recipients. Grants were awarded to Federal, state, local, and tribal government entities, as well as non-profit organizations through a competitive matching-grant program.
