From introduction: "Chambers, Murphy & Burge Restoration Architects (CMB), in association with Fitzsimons Office of Architecture (FOA) of Lexington, Kentucky, has been retained by the Friends of the Famsley-Kaufman House to prepare a Preservation Plan for the historic Farnsley-Kaufman Farm. The preparation of the Preservation Plan includes the recording and assessment of existing conditions; researching the sites contextual background and developing building chronology plans; developing a treatment philosophy and project approach which provides an authentic interpretation of the site's significance; and providing treatment and repair recommendations. CMB and FOA will also be preparing drawings and specifications for the building's stabilization, repair and long-term preservation. CMB and FOA began work in October 2005 and have continued to date. Thus far the Team has conducted contextual background research, surveyed and analyzed the existing conditions, and prepared building chronology plans. Existing condition plans were drawn, which will serve as the base for repair and preservation construction drawings. Additionally, preservation design concepts have been developed for the reconstruction of the front portico and the treatment of the rear porch area. This Preservation Plan is a summary of the work that has been completed and an overview of a presentation and colaborative meeting with the Friends of the Famsley-Kaufman House on January 23, 2006. The meeting provided the opportunity to review the Team's observations, recommendations, and design concepts and to verify that CMB and FOA's approach parallels the goals and philosophy of the Friends." Project funding was provided in part by a 2003 Save America's Treasures grant to the The Friends of the Farnsley-Kaufman House (grant number 21-03-ML-1320) administered by the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. The Federal Save America's Treasures (SAT) grants program began in 1999 and helps preserve nationally significant historic properties and collections that convey our nation's rich heritage to future generations of Americans. Since 1999, there have been almost 4,000 requests for funding totaling $1.54 billion. In response to these requests, $315,152,000 was awarded to 1,287 recipients. Grants were awarded to Federal, state, local, and tribal government entities, as well as non-profit organizations through a competitive matching-grant program.
