From Invitation to Bid: "The Project consists of the exterior preservation of the Carriage House & Barn at the Forbes House Museum. The Forbes House Museum is listed in the National List of National Historic Landmarks (NHL), as published by the U. S. Secretary of the Interior. Work includes earthwork and paving including site grading and storm drainage, selective demolition, repointing of brick and stone masonry; rough carpentry and framing including repair or replacement of framing, sheathing, timber beams and columns, and related rough carpentry work; repair of existing slate roofing including replacement of slate to the extent indicated; repair, resetting, or replacement of flashings; replacement of existing asphalt shingle roof with new wood shingle roof including roof drainage (gutters and downspouts), wood shingle starter course, wood shingle covered ridge vent, and associated underlayments, cedar breather, and related flashings; repair or replacement of siding and trim to match; caulking and sealing of all exterior work as indicated; repair or replacement of wood windows, limited door repair; preparation of exterior siding and trim for repainting including all conditioners, priming, wood repair, and primers and finish coats for repainting; repair or replacement of associated window and door flashings, as indicated; and all other work indicated on the Bidding and Contract Documents." Project funding was provided in part by a 2005 Save America's Treasures grant to the Captain Forbes House Museum (grant number 25-05-ML-0299) administered by the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. The Federal Save America's Treasures (SAT) grants program began in 1999 and helps preserve nationally significant historic properties and collections that convey our nation's rich heritage to future generations of Americans. Since 1999, there have been almost 4,000 requests for funding totaling $1.54 billion. In response to these requests, $315,152,000 was awarded to 1,287 recipients. Grants were awarded to Federal, state, local, and tribal government entities, as well as non-profit organizations through a competitive matching-grant program.
