2008 Cultural Resources Survey, Summary Report, Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania

From introduction: "The project included the survey of 99 properties in Cheltenham Township utilizing Pennsylvania Historic Resource Survey Forms (PHRS Forms). All forms were completed according to the guidelines published by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) (Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission 2001). The 2008 CRS is a continuation of earlier surveys undertaken in 1999 and 2005. The results from the 1999 survey are summarized in Cultural Resources Survey, Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania (1999 CRS), prepared by Preservation Design Partnership in September of 1999. The 2005 survey work was included as an attachment to the 1999 survey and the work was also completed by Preservation Design Partnership. In the 1999 and 2005 surveys, the architectural historians surveyed 102 properties total and recorded their findings on PHRS Forms. The numbering system that was instituted during the 1999 CRS was continued for the 2005 CRS and the 2008 CRS... A number of the resources surveyed during the 2008 CRS were determined to be potentially eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. It should be noted that only exterior surveys were completed for the properties and that additional research and interior surveys are likely necessary in order to formally nominate individual properties to the National Register of Historic Places. The determinations of eligibility noted below are the opinions based on this survey and do not reflect any previous determinations. Of the 97 PHRS Forms completed, 61 properties were determined potentially eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (Table 1)." Funding for this item was provided in part through a 2007 Preserve America grant to Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania (grant number 42-07-PA-3031) for the Cheltenham Township Cultural Resources Survey. The grant was administered by the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
