This report was created to: 1) provide a brief introductory overview of the area and its early history, 2) provide a brief description of physical changes that have occurred to the building since its initial construction, and 3) describe the existing structural conditions of the building fabric. Much of the information about the structure's physical changes was obtained by studying photographs compiled by the Islesford Historical Society, several of which are included in this report. The "Blue Duck" is located in Isleford, Maine, a settlement on the northwest side of Little Cranberry Isle. This is one of the islands that makes up the Town of Cranberry Isles, to the south and east of Mt. Desert Island. The structure was constructed sometime after 1848, most likely 1850, and was built by or for Edwin Hadlock to serve the maritime trade. The name "The Blue Duck" was given to the building by William Sawtelle. Architectural changes and existing conditions of the interior and exterior are documented.
