From introduction: "The goal of this cyclical maintenance manual is to provide a guide to preservation for the Pope-Leighey house. The manual contains information for all staff associated with the maintenance of the house. It includes checklists, inspection reports, material information and standard methods for preservation. Selected research, drawings, and a list of additional references are included for additional use. If used properly, this manual will ensure effective communication between all parties involved in the building and will bring new employees up to speed quickly and effectively. The manual is not foolproof, and common sense and personal discretion must be used. Some sections of the manual are minutely detailed while others leave room for the readers’ own judgement. If a user is unsure about any task or method, they should always ask their supervisor or contact the Graham Gund Architect of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP). This maintenance manual should be of long-term use to the site. Feedback from users is always important, and regular revisions are imperative to its continued functionality. The Graham Gund Architect maintains this document and will work with site staff to make revisions as necessary. Project funding was provided in part by a 2005 Save America's Treasures grant to the National Trust for Historic Preservation (grant number 90-05-ML-0320) administered by the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. The Federal Save America's Treasures grants program began in 1999 and helps preserve nationally significant historic properties and collections that convey our nation's rich heritage to future generations of Americans. Since 1999, there have been almost 4,000 requests for funding totaling $1.54 billion. In response to these requests, $315,152,000 was awarded to 1,287 recipients. Grants were awarded to Federal, state, local, and tribal government entities, as well as non-profit organizations through a competitive matching-grant program.
