This standard operating procedure (SOP) is being adapted with minor modifications from the Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network (NCBN) shoreline safety procedures (Skidds 2013). The modifications included are noted in the GULN coastal topography protocol implementation plan (Bracewell 2017). This SOP was designed to provide an overview of safety issues that should be covered during pre-season training and to serve as a first reference in case of an incident. Topics covered include emergency procedures and contacts, incident reporting, field preparation, safe field procedures, and vehicle safety.
