This collection of drawings includes an architectural series, structural series, and mechanical, electrical, plumbing series. From introduction and scope of work: "The City of Marshall proposes to renovate the historic Memorial City Hall Building on the square in downtown Marshall. The building was built in 1928 and is considered to be a good example of the Classical Revival style of architecture. The building was the seat of the governmental, law enforcement, and civic and cultural activity for the community for approximately 50 years. It contained the municipal auditorium for the community and it housed the police station and city administrative offices. The timing of the planning and construction of the building in the mid to late 1920s created the opportunity for the community to dedicate the building as a memorial to honor and remember the people from Marshall who lost their lives in World War I. After World War II the memorial dedication of the building was extended to cover the people from Marshall who lost their lives in World War II. A primary objective of the project is to renovate the historic auditorium and return it to use. The main lobby of the building will be expanded by removing partitions that were added to make additional offices. Modern restrooms of adequate size will be constructed in the basement. The building will be rewired and fire safety systems will be installed. Heating and cooling systems will be upgraded. The entire building will be made to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Harrison County Historical Museum will occupy part of the building and will support the dedication of the building as a memorial by displaying a military exhibit in the building." Funding was provided in part by a 2008 Preserve America grant to the City of Marshall (grant number 48-08-AP-4138) for the Marshall History Museum and Memorial Hall Planning Project. The grant was administered by the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. Preserve America is a federal initiative that encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy our priceless cultural and natural heritage. The goals of the program include a greater shared knowledge about the nation's past, strengthened regional identities and local pride, increased local participation in preserving the country's cultural and natural heritage assets, and support for the economic vitality of our communities.
