From summary: "The Southside Old Town Historic Building Survey is a two volume report that documents the findings of a comprehensive survey and inventory of all historic buildings in the Southside Old Town sections of Flagstaff, Arizona. The survey area is bounded generally by the Santa Fe Railroad tracks on the north the Northern Arizona University campus on the south Lone Pine Road on the east and the alignment of Blackbird Roost Road on the west. The purpose of the survey was to identify and document each remaining pre-1945 building in the area provide historical information on the origins evolution and significance of each building and to evaluate their eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The final report is organized to be a working document for future planning and preservation activities and to provide guidance on issues such as historic districts preservation of important individual buildings and potential restoration and rehabilitation programs. The Southside Old Town Historic Building Survey is also intended to provide a tool which will increase the awareness of property owners local government and special interests to the historical significance of the area and the value of heritage conservation. The Southside Old Town Historic Building Survey project was undertaken between June 1992 and September 1993 The Arizona Historical Society-Northern Division Northern/Arizona Pioneers Historical Society contracted with the Woodward Arcbitectural Group to undertake the project and prepare the survey report and the resulting nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. An integral component to the success of this project was the participation of the museum staff and interested local citizen volunteers. These people contributed their time to both the field documentation and historic research. Their assistance was a very valuable contribution to the project. The volunteers and staff contributed over 800 hours of their time and their efforts are greatly appreciated." Project funding was provided in part by a 1992 Historic Preservation Fund grant administered by the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office (grant number 04-92-70050) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
