From summary and recommendations: "The Tubac settlement is one of the most historically significant locations in Arizona. Few areas in the state embody as much association with the range of historic activities and events that influenced Arizona's 18th and 19th century development as Tubac. Tubac exemplifies the Spanish Colonial exploration and settlement period in the southwestern United States from 1691 to 1821. It is significant in that context for its role in the development of the system of missions in southern Arizona by early Jesuit and Franciscan missionaries and explorers. In addition, it is important as a key component of Spanish Colonial mi 1 i tary activities in the southwest from 1752 to 1821. The Tubac settlement also exemplifies the development and expansion of exploration transportation routes in the Spanish Colonial frontier as well as its direct association with the activities of noted Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza... The historic resources that illustrate Tubac's heritage are broad ranging and include archaeological sites dating to the Spanish Colonial period, architectural resources representative of the American exploration period, and buildings that illustrate the development of the Tubac townsite in the early 20th century. Those resources are located in an area much larger than the central, urbanized port ion of the Tubac townsite where most of the buildings can be found. The scattered resources include prehistoric and historic sites, agricultural sites, and roads and trails. The fact that Tubac's important cultural resources are located in concentrated as well as dispersed patterns was an important aspect in determining how those resources should be identified, evaluated, and recognized through the process of listing in the National Register of Historic Places... This report and accompanying Multiple Property Documentation Form describes in a written narrative the entire set of historic contexts for the Tubac Settlement. It analyzes the range of property types that exist, or are likely to exist, in the area. With the contextual framework established, a series of multiple property listings can be organized and submitted that focus on selected aspects of the community's history, related property types and historic resources. The name of the Tubac Multiple Property Area is Historic Resources of the Tubac Settlement, 1730 to 1920."
