From introduction: "Out of flux and movement, a town coalesced which possessed historical veneers of considerable variety. From a ford in a river to the most recent highway bridge, the essence of Yuma's history has been based upon the development of the crossing of the Colorado River. As part of this, architecture has celebrated the fact of "crossing", and it speaks, however briefly, of the triumph of men over incredible difficulties. These guidelines, plus the proposed park at the Yuma Crossing, seek to honor and celebrate this historical achievement." Funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the City of Phoenix administered by the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
