From introduction: "The following report is the result of an intensive literary research in early German sources and some insight gained during meetings with members of the 'Marshall Island Society for the Protection of Traditional Medicine' as well as some observations during field research on Wotho Atoll. This project was sponsored by the Republic of the Marshall Island's Historic Preservation Office and funded by the Historic Preservation Fund, National Park Service, Department of the Interior." Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant administered by the Marshall Islands Historic Preservation Office and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
