Monitoring Rare Boreal Plants at the Southern Limit of their Geographic Range in Glacier National Park

Lesica P. 2014. Monitoring Rare Boreal Plants at the Southern Limit of their Geographic Range in Glacier National Park. National Park Service. Missoula MT

Report presents results for the establishment of baseline data for monitoring 5 of 15 rare (vascular) plant species for which monitoring protocols were established in 2006. These species are boreal species reaching the southern limit of their continuous range in Montana: Species and locations for which results are presented: 1. Amerochis rotundifolia (Lee Creek fen) 2. Gentianopsis macounii (Lee Creek) 3. Lycopodium lagopus (Logan Pass) 4. Trichophorum alpinum (Grinnell Glacier trail) 5. Vaccinium myrtilloides (Apgar bike path) The larger objective of this project is to combine results for monitoring studies of 27 arctic or boreal plant species at the southern edge of their range in Montana in order to predict which plants/communities are likely to be most affected by climate change.
