From introduction: "On behalf of the Wisconsin Historical Society, I am pleased to invite you to Elkhart Lake to attend the Eighth Annual Local History and Historic Preservation Conference. The conference has grown to become a dynamic gathering that brings together professionals and volunteers to discuss their work in collecting, preserving, and sharing our history. The size of the Osthoff Conference Center gave us the opportunity to expand the conference to encompass a total of 36 sessions and 15 workshops. In addition we have extended programming on Saturday to accommodate two training tracks for the historic preservation commissioner, one track for the beginner and another for the advanced. The Wisconsin Council for Local History is also sponsoring the third annual Town Square, a networking opportunity for historical and preservation groups to share information about their organizations and programs. The always popular Saturday morning Coffee and Conversation hour will also return. We also hope you’ll enjoy exploring the exciting history and natural beauty of Elkhart Lake. We are particularly excited to offer our Friday night program, Taste Traditions of Wisconsin: A Special Evening at Wade House, where you can enjoy a carriage ride, experience the new state-of-the-art Carriage Museum and Visitor Center, dine on delicious seasonal food, and hear a rollicking presentation on Victorians’ Secrets from Leslie Bellais. While we are in Elkhart Lake, you also may want to check out the Society’s Wisconsin History Tour, which will be based in nearby Sheboygan during the month of October, with events taking place throughout the weekend (see page 6). Please make plans to join us in Elkhart Lake!"
