From introduction: "Downtown holds special places in the hearts of many communities. This is especially true for downtown Plattsmouth. Not only is the district unique in the city, it is a unique regional attraction. This document is an effort to preserve and enhance the best qualities of the downtown. Plattsmouth residents and building owners take great pride in the downtown and the concentration of historic and architecturally interesting buildings. This document provides a guide for preserving and rehabilitating the historic buildings of the district. To encourage the preservation of historic places, the Plattsmouth City Council established by ordinance the Historic Preservation Board in 2004. The Plattsmouth preservation program has since received designation as a federally certified local historic preservation program. The Board was charged with adopting design guidelines that would encourage and achieve historic preservation goals. They will then use these guidelines to issue a Certificate of Approval." Funding was provided in part by a 2008 Historic Preservation Fund grant to the City of Plattsmouth (project number NE-08-022) administered by the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office (grant number 31-08-21732) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. Plattsmouth, Nebraska is a Certified Local Government.
