Abstract: "This document serves as the final survey report of the Reconnaissance Level Survey of Oklahoma County Industrial Resources. The Oklahoma Historic Preservation Survey, an adjunct of the Department of History at Oklahoma State University, performed the survey between September 1, 1990 and August 31, 1991 under a contract (40-90-2.010) with the State Historic Preservation Office of the Oklahoma Historical Society. Project personnel conducted the survey in order to: (1) identify and minimally document individual historic industrial properties and potential districts which warrant further study for possible inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places; (2) identify and characterize portions of the study area devoid of historic industrial properties; and, (3) identify reference material useful for completing National Register nominations of properties deemed worthy of further study. To facilitate this entire process, a historic narrative of Oklahoma County's industrial development was also prepared. This narrative provides the context necessary to evaluate the historic significance, or meaning, of these properties. The survey covered the entire 705 square miles (451,200 acres) of Oklahoma County, which lies within the State Historic Preservation Office's Management Region #6. A total of 158 industrial related properties were minimally documented, of which 134 (84.8%) warrant further study for possible National Register inclusion. Of these, 68 (43% of the total properties documented), lie within the 10 potential historic districts the survey determined. This survey report, together with the accompanying individual property files, should facilitate land-use management in the study area which is sensitive to its historic resources. Funding was provided in part by a 1990 Historic Preservation Fund grant administered by the Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office (project number OK-90-010) and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
