From abstract: "In January 2002, the City of Guthrie retained the services of Preservation Central. Inc., a historic preservation consulting firm based in Austin, Texas, to conduct an architectural survey of the East Guthrie Townsite. Preservation Central, Inc. surveyed 849 cultural resources, regardless of age, architectural or historical merit, or condition, within the East Guthrie Townsite, an area bounded by College Avenue on the north, the creek south of Lincoln Avenue on the south, Division Street on the west and Walnut Street on the east. Of the 849 resources surveyed, 762 were dated to the historic period i.e., they were 50 years old or older. Eighty-seven properties were found to be of more recent vintage, dating from 1955 to the present. Preservation Central used the date 1955 as the cut-off point for Contributing properties to assist in future planning purposes. Of the total surveyed resources, 532 were considered to be Contributing features of the historic district. Seventeen of those properties are considered to be of exceptional historical or architectural significance and are considered individually eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Noncontributing properties were either modern resources or historic resources that lacked architectural integrity. There are 317 Noncontributing properties in the project area; 106 do not meet the age criterion and 211 are historic properties that have been significantly altered from their original or historic period appearance." Funding was provided in part by a 2002 Historic Preservation Fund grant administered by the Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
