John Newcomer gives an oral history interview on his experiences growing up in Harpers Ferry in the early 1900s. Newcomer is the grandson of the first president of Storer College, Nathan Brackett, and several of his family members worked as staff members at the college including his grandmother, Louise Brackett, his aunt, Lura Brackett Lightner, his father, Reverend J.C. Newcomer, and his mother, Celeste Brackett Newcomer. Newcomer speaks about growing up on campus in the Brackett House, Storer College, summer boarders. He also discusses Harpers Ferry and several families who lived there including the Doran, DeLauder, Kerns, LaRue, Crum, and Wentzell families.
