ABSTRACT: I. Larval taxonomy in North American Lepidostomatidae (Trichoptera): Larval morphology and chaetotaxy of ten North American species of Leoidostoma were studied; a comparative data base was established, leading to provisional diagnoses for larvae of these species and for two of the four subgenera represented. Larval morphology and chaetotaxy have considerable taxonomic value at the species level, but few of these characters are shared by groups of species. I I . A comparative morphological study of lateral line systems in larvae and pupae of Trichoptera: Structures on the lateral abdominal surface in immature Trichoptera were investigated in sixty-seven genera representing twenty-six families. The lateral line system comprises filaments and lamellae with the associated lateral gills, spiracles, primary and secondary setae, and lateral humps on abdominal segment I . Lateral filaments and lamellae are largely confined to larvae constructing portable cases. Distribution and morphology of these structures have significant taxonomic and phylogenetic value.
