From introduction: "Three districts in Jacksonville--Avondale, Riverside and Springfield-- have been listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Accordingly, they meet the criteria for designation as local historic districts as defined in the City's historic preservation ordinance. Design guidelines , which form the basis for determining the appropriateness of changes to existing buildings and new construction, are required under the ordinance when the City Council designates a historic district. The following guidelines explain the architectural character of the Riverside and Avondale Historic Districts and provide standards to ensure the protection of significant buildings and sites located there." Funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the City of Jacksonville administered by the Florida State Historic Preservation Office and the State, Tribal, and Local Plans and Grants Division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
