This study provides the historical data for Part II, Historic Structures Report for the Andrew Johnson House between 1831 and 1851. The purpose of the study is to identify the structural and human-related history of the Greeneville, Tennessee home during those years, in which Andrew Johnson attained success as a tailor and then became a prominent political figure on local and national scenes. Using papers and journals, the study attempts to establish the history of alterations made to the structure. The report is intended to serve as a guide for exterior restoration of the early Johnson house to its appearance during occupancy by Andrew Johnson and his family. Part I of the Historic Structures Report provided that the exterior of the structure would be restored to its historic appearance. The Interpretive Prospectus for Andrew Johnson National Historic Site also calls for the exterior restoration, along with restoration of the parlor and dining room, to reflect the life and era of the Johnson family for visitors.
