This report contains an overview of the history, use, and importance of the Andrew Johnson House. The restored structure would play a role in relation to the historic scene, and the interior would provide space for library material, conference facilities, and exhibits. The original house of ca. 1830 was a simple two-story brick block with a one-story ell. The report documents the history of the structure, including changes made to that point. The report includes the recommended actions and cost estimate for stabilization of the walls (Phase I), restoration of the house, and other landscape development (Phase II). In addition to stabilizing the walls, it is advised that the tin roof be replaced by wood shingles, solid pane windows be replaced with multi-pane windows, the red paint on the exterior be removed, and a back section of the lot be used for parking. Further study of the interior was needed before any changes could be recommended.
