ABSTRACT: Recent advances in real time detection of fish physiological responses to water quality fluctuations now complement developments in remote automated physical monitoring. Not only do site-specific measurements allow verification of existing stream conditions, but they also provide sound data bases crucial to protecting and effectively managing the water resource. Employing fish breathing rate biosensing units interfaced to remote central data collection platforms equipped with physical water quality monitors, data gathered from both cold and warm water stations are transmitted at discreet time intervals via earth satellites to a land-based processing center. Viewing fish response data in light of simultaneously monitored water quality information is complementary to management needs.
