The archeological survey of Cape Cod National Seashore is a multi-year study designed to help manage and interpret archeological resources. These resources include material remains and information about them from both the historic (about 1550 A.D. to the present) and prehistoric (about 12,000 before the present to 1550 A.D.) time periods. It is impossible to manage these resources effectively without a good idea of their locations, abundance, characteristics, and relative importance. Accurate reconstruction and interpretation also requires knowledge of location, abundance, and characteristics. With these kinds of data, historic and prehistoric activities, their chronology and frequency can be reconstructed. Prior to the survey, little information about any of these topics was available. More important, the accuracy of the available data could not be gauged because it was derived from unrelated, disparate sources. This booklet acquaints the reader with the project. It has a brief description of last year's work and some inferences based on it. Other parts of the booklet describe the 1980 goals, strategy, organization, duties, procedures and recording forms.
