The reconstruction of the Dunkard Church was accomplished by general contract, with certain portions of the fabric supplied to the contractor by the National Park Service from materials that had been salvaged by a local resident from the original structure when it was demolished by a windstorm on May 23, 1921. This report documents the construction project and includes bid information, work progress, and interior furnishings. Photographs and drawings provide addition documentation. The report is preceded by a cost analysis and approval sheet, dated after the initial publication. The salvaged material had been held by Mr. Elmer G. Boyer of Sharpsburg for forty years. While the collection contained representative samples, it did not have all the components or amounts for the complete reconstruction. Therefore, additional pieces were fabricated, and damaged materials were repaired. Constructed started on August 7, first under Building Restoration Specialist Charles Siedel and then Building Restoration Specialist Robert Voorhees.
