ABSTRACT: Eleven species of Paxillaceae (six from the northern hemisphere, five from South America) have been examined for relative content of nuclear DNA by means of cytofluorometry and then compared with other families of the Boletales. At least four different levels of ploidy are discussed. Within Paxillus a linear correlation between spore volume and DNA content of spore nuclei is found.
