This dataset describes best-available information from 11 western states for caves, mines, and limited numbers of other structures surveyed by state and federal land management agencies and partners for bat hibernacula activity during winter, spanning years 1916-2017. Point locations of structures are sensitive and not provided for public distribution. Location of structure within 100 km^2 North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat) sample frame grid cells is provided as an alternative. This dataset was used for the analysis presented by Weller et al. (forthcoming) to summarize what is known about winter bat hibernacula patterns in the western US, with implications for disease surveillance and other conservation activities. The dataset contains 4549 individual records, many of which are temporal replicate survey records from single locations. Considerable missingness in data is suspected for these data, with some states being more complete than others. This dataset is recommended for coarse-filter generic summaries only and as a baseline upon which to guide future conservation activities.
