Architectural Data Section of Part I, Historic Structures Report for the Dunkard Church, Antietam National Battlefield Site
Franzen AW. 1960. Architectural Data Section of Part I, Historic Structures Report for the Dunkard Church, Antietam National Battlefield Site. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service
This study of the Dunkard Church is based on a number of early photographs, several of which are included with this report. Individual testimony gathered from those familiar with the church or the battlefield site was assessed and measured against the physical features evident in the photographs. The report notes discrepancies between the existing structure and the descriptions made in earlier reports. It recommends that the foundations be examined by an archeologist to resolve the differences in these descriptions. One of these earlier reports contains an inventory of salvaged building materials and furnishings. The exterior and interior are described, accompanied by photos and sketches from around the late 1890s through 1960. The report was created in preparation for the reconstruction project of the Dunkard Church.
