The degree to which coral reef ecosystems will be impacted by global climate change depends on regional and local differences in corals’ susceptibility and resilience to environmental stressors. This dissertation attempts to investigate the physiological basis behind the unique stress tolerance of a group of back reef corals that experience daily environmental extremes thought to cause bleaching and mortality in most corals.
