What pollinates the Shaw’s Agave (Agave shawii subsp. shawii)? Investigating a Rare Plants’ Pollination Regime in a Fragmented Urban Park

Nabors A, Stokes D, Clark K, Vanderplank S, Wall M. What pollinates the Shaw’s Agave (Agave shawii subsp. shawii)? Investigating a Rare Plants’ Pollination Regime in a Fragmented Urban Park. Research Permit and Reporting System

he pollination trials for Shaw’s Agave (Agave shawii subsp. shawii) concluded that the agave effectively self fertilizes to some degree, even while bagged and in the absence of pollinators. We conclude that no animal pollinator effectively pollinates this species in our study area, and reproduction is accomplished through limited self-pollination.
